AMA is built on the concept of partnership and ownership. We believe that supporting the poor requires more than writing checks to a named organization. We believe in the concept of ownership and partnership for a common cause. It takes more than a small number of people to make a lasting impact in the fight against poverty. AMA’s donors and volunteers come together to form a social unit built on common passion and a shared vision. Our dream is to create a community of passionate individuals who not only support the work of AMA with their time and resources but who have a sense of ownership and shared responsibility. We believe that this sense of ownership will result in effective involvement, strategic mobilization, and valuable synergy, and will help to change the poor better, smarter, and faster.

The Partnership Concept
AMA functions as a partnership of interdependent national offices overseen by their own boards of directors. Today the organization has partnership offices in the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Canada, Rwanda, and volunteer representatives in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Norway, and the Netherlands. The partnership offices coordinate the strategic operations of the organization and internationally represent the needs of Africa’s poor.

Each partnership office is supported by volunteer regional representatives who are the heartbeat of the organization’s activities.

What is a Region?
AMA’s regions are based on the national political divisions of a country. In the United Sates, for example, a regional representative can represent a region such as the Pacific Northwest, a state such as California, a county, a parish, an independent city, or a town.

Who is a Volunteer Regional Representative?
A volunteer regional representative is the chief spokesperson and point of contact for AMA’s work in a named region. A regional representative creates and oversees the implementation of a strategic approach to fundraising activities which may include individual gifts, corporate donations, grant solicitations, and in-kind donations.

Who Can Be a Volunteer Regional Representative?
Anyone who has compassion for the poor and a strong zeal to engage communities in activities that assist the poor can be a regional representative. A regional representative possesses strong relationship building skills to acquire, develop, and nurture key influencers in communities, schools, churches, businesses, and associations. The representative is also able to passionately deliver engaging presentations regarding poverty issues in Africa to large and small audiences. Other helpful skills may include communication skills, team building skills, planning skills, and administrative skills.
